The stated mission of bringchange2mind.org is to erase the stigma associated with mental health/illnesses.

ERASEstigma.org will work toward that goal, and we plan to focus more on preventing suicide, saving lives from eventually stopping suicide altogether. It stands to reason that when we succeed at erasing and, eventually, eliminating the stigma, one of the side effects will be a lower suicide rate, more people receiving the treatment they truly need and being helped like Jessie Close.

We are devoting our time, energy and money as our way of honoring everyone touched by the stigma and suicide. I believe my mother, Diane Marcus-Roy, would still be with us if she had the kind of medical care Jessie Close is fortunate to have today. But experts I interviewed and included in my Emmy Award winning report, "A Son of Suicide," said she was an expert at hiding her true feelings. There is no doubt in my mind, especially since I am proud to say that I am my mother's son, that it was the stigma that made her so afraid of what other people might think or say if they found out she was bipolar or diagnosed with a brain disorder. She never was.

We are paying tribute to my mother and to all we've lost to suicide, and to the people who loved them, survivors of suicide.

If you know how to do any of the things that should be done to make ERASEstigma a very real and credible foundation that is making a difference in many people's lives, I hope you'll get started on it right away, right now. Time is ticking and we cannot afford to waste another minute.

Consider this my permission or approval. Know that if it will help make this come to life, then go ahead and do what you can. Do all that you can and then some. You'll be helping to improve the lives of anyone touched by or living with mental illness.

Thank you for your kindness, time, energy and everything!

With love,

It looks like a terrific event. Maybe you'll open it to Canadians in the future. It would be a great opportunity for us to share the fun.
